Flood/flood events are an important natural disaster in our country and take the second place after the earthquake in terms of loss of life and affected settlements. Although floods and overflows are different concepts, they are often used synonymously. Flood is defined as a mass of water that comes suddenly from side streams after heavy rains and carries large amounts of sediment. On the other hand, flood is defined as a stream that overflows from its bed for various reasons, causing damage to the surrounding lands, settlements, infrastructure facilities and living things, thus creating a flow size that interrupts normal socio-economic activity in the impact area.
In order to eliminate and/or minimize the loss of life and property caused by floods, necessary studies should be carried out and the most appropriate and economical measures should be taken to solve the problem. For this, appropriate flood and sediment control structures should be planned, designed, constructed and operated. For this, some adjustments need to be made.
